Fall Essentials for the Millennial Working Woman

I’m not sure if it was the long summer – or my love of all things comfy and cozy – but I couldn’t be more excited that fall has finally arrived in San Diego!  Here are a few of my fall favorites that are both work appropriate and versatile for those much needed rest days!

the little things in 2014

It’s all about the little splurges in life to make it that much sweeter. A few of my favorites for the New Year are:

Fresh flowers. In my kitchen. In my bedroom. In my bathroom. Everywhere. I just love the smell and feel.

fresh flowers

The Pioneer Woman’s home style cooking. One of my goals for 2014 is to cook one 3-course meal every two weeks. There’s no one better to learn from than Ree!

Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman

Inspirational blogs like Eric Barker’s. And inspirational posts like “8 Things The World’s Most Successful People All Have In Common.”

An “Us Weekly” magazine subscription – such a splurge! But worth every penny. There is no better way to relax than with a magazine on hand!

California getaways. I’ve been very fortunate to travel to over fifty countries (you may have seen this recent post about Panama City!), but I’m looking forward to a few weekends exploring beautiful California! Catalina, Newport Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palm Springs – I’ve got my sights set on you!

Lululemon. It took me a while to jump on the Lululemon train – but after my mom insisted I try a pair, I fell in love. It has since transformed my wardrobe and my life…I either wear work clothes or Lululemon (regardless of if I am actually exercising) at all times. Even more than their clothes, they believe in goals! And long-term thinking! If you couldn’t tell, I am a huge fan.

happy

A few things that made me happy today…

selena gomez
This great quote from Selena Gomez.

great companies
Amazing companies like this. I treated myself to their S’Mores brownie on a recent day trip to L.A. It was de-lish.

Joy
Slightly gray weather…and the fact that it is almost October. Meaning that it is almost time to pull out my Christmas decorations.

sick day
The perfect ingredients for a sick day at home.

whole foods
Hilarious articles like this one. And this one.

Daydreams about my next fantasy vacation. Santorini.

me and grandma
The beautiful words of my grandma on her very own blog! And a very old picture of the two of us that makes me smile.

One of my favorite quotes from her blog – especially as I am finally settling into my own home, full of eclectic treasures – is, “Many people think of a house as a home. I am sure that all of you who read this story know that a home is many things. A home is the sights and sounds of life happening. Listen carefully and you can almost hear the laughter of family and friends.

the next best thing since spanx

An old boyfriend of mine’s mom invented one of the most amazing products for women after Spanx…

Grasswalkers.

polka dots

How many times do women wear our favorite heels to a wedding, graduation, or outdoor party without realizing that it takes place on grass? Our feet sink into the mushy, sometimes muddy grass with every step – and if we’re wearing light enough shoes (or suede…I’ve made that mistake before), our shoes even begin to take on a light green hue. We then spend hours delicately cleaning off our brand new Kate Spade heels after the wedding, praying that they survived the damage.

what-can_what-are1

Grasswalkers solves all of these problems. I’ll admit that I’m normally one to stick with wedges for any event that requires more than a few steps out the car, but the next few months for me are packed with outdoor events and weddings. I will be purchasing at least a few pair of Grasswalkers! Plus, a portion of the proceeds benefits art education in San Diego. A great cause!

I’d just like to congratulate Sheryl for identifying an issue that women face regularly, realizing that there is a need and a market for a product like this, and executing on it. Hooray for Grasswalkers!

currently craving: fashion

Lately, I’ve been pouring any extra money I have into decorating my condo….I can’t get enough Anthropologie ceramic kitchen accessories. I’ve still been daydreaming about a new wardrobe though…

A few pieces that I am LOVING are…

PRINTS! This floral Dolce & Gabanna dress. I don’t think I’d ever spend this much money on a dress, but if Target comes out with a cheaper version, I’d be the first in line!

print dress

On a more casual note, I love this baseball-inspired sweater at JCrew. It’s light and perfect for summer.

Confession…I already bought this blouse and skirt from Banana Republic. I love white blouses for the office during summer.

banana republic peplum

I noticed these Chloe flats the other day at the mall…but it wasn’t until I felt how soft the leather is that I was sold. These look like the most comfortable flats in the world. And the color is gorgeous!

chloe shoes

These Madewell polka dot shorts are too cute. I’d love to dress them with a cute blouse and heels for a summer night.

I love this Kate Spade necklace. I’m pretty sure I would wear it with everything! It’s so feminine.

working girl problem: comfy flats

So, I know this isn’t a real working girl problem. But for women that walk as much as I do for my job (touring clients through office space) – and for those of us that live/work in cities (though San Diego is more of a big town) – comfortable shoes are a must.

Now I love heels as much as the next girl…though I’m much less talented at walking in them than the average girl. Unfortunately, they’re just not realistic for walking the streets of downtown San Diego. So I’ve learned to adapt.

It’s taken many, many tries at finding the most comfortable flats on the market, and here are my top picks. I hope you find them helpful!

1. Patricia Green

I bought these shoes because I was drawn to the bright pink color…but realized that these are truly the most comfortable flats I have ever put on my foot. I feel like I am floating in slippers when wearing them. The squishy sole and soft material makes it heaven for tired feet. The best part? She sells them in every color. I also have these in red. When you find a good one, stock up!

Pink

2. Elie Tahari

These Elie Tahari shoes are again a shoe worth buying twice. I have these flats in black and orange! They are incredibly comfortable, flexible, and don’t constrict the foot like most patent leather flats do.

Orange

3. Coach

I originally bought these Coach flats for their color – they seemed like the perfect flats for spring and summer! Not to mention that the inside print is amazing…I love the contrast of the leopard and blue. Coach has mastered the flat with this shoe. I’ve tried several of their flats but always ended up with blistered feet and painful walking tours. These were different – and for that reason are in my top comfy flat picks!

Blue Coach

4.Via Spiga

These Via Spiga aren’t as fun as the first three…but they make up for it in comfort! I wanted some navy, slightly more professional flats…and the femininity of these shoes put me over the edge! These too are like walking on air…and after walking miles and miles, I have yet to have a blister.

Blue Via Spiga

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs

These are the prettiest red shoes I’ve ever seen – and I feel like Dorothy every time I wear them! The black bow adds the perfect amount of class, and the shape of the shoe fits my foot perfectly. No heels sliding out. No pinched toes. This is a great investment to liven up the office!

songs of the summer, part 1

For those of you that know me, I have a very eclectic taste in music…mostly country, but I like my fair share of pop, Enya, and even some 50 Cent!

Here are a few of my favorite songs for the summer…more to come!!

pirate flag

1. Pirate Flag, Kenny Chesney

The best song of the summer, by far. The perfect song to blast by the pool with some chips and guacamole on hand!

2. Get Your Shine On, Florida-Georgia Line

This is one of the happiest, most uplifting songs of the summer. I can’t wait to drive around with my windows down and this song blasting out the windows.

3. American Beautiful, The Henningsens

Love this song and love this group. This is the first song I’ve heard of theirs – and it makes me feel like I’m Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama everytime I hear it.

4. Springsteen, Eric Church

This song is a little bit old – but is such a perfect summer country song. I can’t get enough. There’s something about the beat, Eric Church’s amazing voice, and the lyrics about looking back on past memories that makes me happy!

5. 22, Taylor Swift

I am going to take advantage of this song for the next few months before I turn 23! What a fun, lively, happy song.

the honorary non-country song of the summer?

selena gomez come and get it

6. Come and Get It, Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez! I love her – she’s beautiful, talented, smart and has the cutest clothes! Her new song is a hit. A fun, flirty tune for the summer.

currently craving: all things girlie

valentino purse

This beautiful Valentino pink studded bag. Definitely a craving – and not a reality any time soon! But a girl can dream…

birds nest necklace

This special bird’s nest necklace that is perfect for both my mom and my grandma – they’re the momma birds in our family!

mark & graham bracelet

These beautiful and ultra feminine Mark & Graham engraved bracelets. I could see myself wearing this with everything.

barefoot dreams robe

The comfiest Barefoot Dreams robe ever. I live in mine – but would love a light pink one like this.

These adorable paper flowers. Since my guy is mildly allergice to flowers, I might just have to invest in these!

lavender face mask

This lavender silk eye mask – is there anything more luxurious?

pink dot dish

I love this cotton candy pink and gold decorative bowl. Too bad my kitchen accessories are mostly red – otherwise I’d love to have this out on the counter!
